The film was shot in West Bank Palestine, East Jerusalem and Israel by Australian film makers, John Reynolds and Jill Hickson, a few months before the current conflict in Gaza. It takes you into the heart of the struggle for Palestinian self-determination.
Survivors of the 1948 Al Nakba, Palestinian human rights defenders and Jewish activists who back the right of return for Palestinians, share their experiences and insights in the struggle against Zionism. They include Salman Abu Sitta, a Palestinian researcher and survivor of Al Nakba; Dr Hanan Ashrawi, a Palestinian politician and winner of the 2003 Australian Peace Prize; Jeff Halper, director of the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions. Representatives of Hebron Human Rights Defenders also share videos of the actions of illegal settlers and Israeli soldiers in Hebron.
The film ends with a passionate plea from Fayrouz Sharqawi, a worker with Grassroots Al Quds, calling on the international community to expand its support and solidarity with Palestinians.
The 60-minute screening will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.
This event is hosted by Rural Australians for Refugees, Nambucca and Bellingen Districts.
